There was fun and games, a fancy dress competition (won by Lincoln) and plenty of Party Food. A special thanks to Henry's mother for helping with the food preparation.
It is the final evening of the term, and the year (except for next weeks Christmas party).
The top patrol for this term are the Cobras. They put in a lot of effort, and the award is well deserved.
The Patrol of the Year Award also goes to the Cobras.
Well done Cobras!
We also singled out some Scouts for individual recognition. These awards are for being the most enthusiastic, dedicated and helpful Scouts in the troop throughout the year. It turns out that all four patrols are represented. Well done to all the the winners.
We continued the work on the DIY badge this week. Progress was made on the Patrol Box project. The
Scouts constructed the framework and began to build up the base and side walls.
They also put together a flat-pack project, learned about clearing a blocked sink and how to
adjust the kitchen cupboard doors.
Rearrange the tiles below to spell out a phrase.
Send the sorted phrase to Skip.
Correct answers will earn 10 points for your patrol.
Tonight we began work on the DIY badge. We looked into the correct way to wire up a plug, lightbulb and switch, started putting up some shelves in the Scout Hut, and began work on our Patrol Boxes.
Jerome earned 10 points for the Cobras by correctly identifying and tying a bowline. The challenge remains again for another week, with up to 15 points to earn for your patrol.
If you do not know what the second knot is, remember, a Scout is resourceful! - You can use Google to research different knots.
The wide game this session was on the Smugglers vs Customs men theme. It was Kestrels and Bulls vs Cobras and Seagulls.
The winners were Kestrels and Bulls. 50 points to each Patrol.
This weeks challenge is in four parts. Each worth 5 points.
Our team this year consisted of two Seagulls; Adam and Luke, two Cobras; Jerome and Alex, two Kestrels; Jennifer and Matthew and Edward of the Bulls.
They began the 12 mile hike at 19:30 on Friday night, and finished at 2:30 on Saturday morning.
The theme was Cops and Robbers. They had to make their way from HQ to checkpoints A,B and C and
back carrying their loot (chocolate coins) with them. If they were caught
by the police, they would have to surrender some of their loot, but they could earn more
loot at each of the checkpoints.
The team completed the course and although they got caught a few times, they
returned to HQ with 33 Gold coins, the winning score!.
Tonight we learned what it would be like to cope with disability with a fun competition. Each patrol was split into 'blind' and 'one armed' Scouts. They were then presented with a set of challenges, such as threading a needle, making a sandwich, filling a jug of water etc.
Tonight we invested our newest Young Leader: "Doc"
Doc has been with the Group since he was a Beaver Scout. He was the first Patrol Leader of the
Kestrels, and now he has remade his promise for the fourth time as a Young Leader.
Welcome to the troop Doc.
