To progress through the training scheme, a Scout must complete a number of challenges. Scouting is not a solo pursuit, and a Scout will face these challenges with the support of the Patrol, and the Troop. Completing a challenge is recognised by awarding badges. These are sewn onto the uniform and worn with pride. To wear the Chief Scout's Gold Award should be the goal of every Scout.
Scouts may also work towards developing their skills in a vast number of different and varied activites; 70 at the last count! - some of them are 'staged' which means a Scout can progress through higher levels of accomplishment.
